Cast and Characters

Fanny Hislop (1858-1935): Female teacher/principal who retired in 1924; The Fanny Hislop Award still given to top Oshawa Grade 8 student. – Erin Collins

James O Guy (1828-1909): “Oshawa’s Grand Old Man,” James was a harbourmaster, businessman, warden, politician and his home at the lake is now the administrative centre for the Oshawa Museum. – David Laing

Nursing Sister Hayes (unknown-1918): WWI Nursing Sister who died in late 1918 due to the Flu. – Amber Dawn Vibert

Captain Howard Burgess (1915-1942): During World War II, served with the British Intelligence Corps and died at Camp X. – Paul Dobbs

Dr. DS Hoig (1853-1939): a long serving medical doctor in our community, author of Reminiscences and Recollections, which he describes as “an interesting pen picture of early days, characters and events in Oshawa.” – Rick Kerr

George McLaughlin (1969-1942): son of industrialist Robert McLaughlin, Vice President of General Motors of Canada, and noted community philanthropist. – Dave Halliday
